How To Transform Small Sales Into Bigger Sales

Turning Small Purchases Into Big Purchases

StockSnap / Pixabay

Everyone wants big ticket sales. But the fact remains, lower priced items are way easier to sell. That’s what most people call a dilemma. Use that information the right way and the result can easily be more big ticket sales for you while still getting the easy low hanging fruit.

It works like this…

First, you get a prospect to commit.  That’s a key word here.  You get somebody to commit, to pull out their credit card and say yes, and happily involve themselves in your offer.  It might be something like a little $7 ebook on how to write better copy in 3 days or less.  Boom, they buy.

And then you say, “Smart move but wait.  I offer special group coaching for

Clker-Free-Vector-Images / Pixabay

$97 a month.”  That’s the upsell.  Logically a certain percentage of the people that you target are going to buy anyway. The x factor is they’ve already made a commitment, “I want to be a better copywriter” in this case,  getting them to invest in more personalized education to get better at copywriting is not as difficult as it would be to sell the $97 product alone.

So when you make them already a complementary offer, and they’ve committed to purchasing, it’s that much easier for them to be consistent.  They have to examine it again and say, “Wait a minute.  Am I really committed to making  myself better at copywriting?  Why did I just buy this?  Well yeah, I just bought this because I am really committed.”

So if you are really committed you’re thinking to yourself, “Hmm, I should probably buy this, too.  This looks like it’ll help me more.”  Great.  So the upsell, the one-time offer – see, the one-time offer combines scarcity, which is another good trigger, so you’re combining multiple triggers here for persuasion.

But you are merely taking them from a small purchase to a larger purchase.  And that’s why it’s much easier to sell a high-ticket item if you put a bunch of low-ticket items in front of it that logically lead to it.

mohamed_hassan / Pixabay

So I get people to buy a $7 copywriting course, and then sell them on a $97 copywriting coaching program, and then after that you sell them on a $197 product creation program, and next we’re going to be selling  a $397 copywriting program.

All just by getting them to make these commitments, and for showing them how to move up the ladder because they’ve made the commitment to keep moving  forward.  Keep them consistently progressing, because  if they consistently move forward and continue their education, they’re going to get good results. This is how to use commitment and consistency positively, but still make a lot of money while still delivering a ton of value at the same time.

Creating Your First Video Sales Letter

Making A Personal Connection With Video

One of your main goals with a great sales letter is to capture people’s attention and make a personal connection with them. You want them to feel like you’re talking directly to them.

That can be hard to do with text, though you can try with stories, bits and pieces about you and your struggle, and by detailing the struggle they’re going through.

connection image
rawpixel / Pixabay

It’s easier to make a connection through video. People can hear your voice and see you talking. There’s more than one way to create a video sales letter, of course. You can create a “talking head” video where you talk directly to the camera. You can create one using PowerPoint/slides, using a narration, etc.

Online sales are often harder to come by than person-to-person sales because they lack the same kind of connection. Video is a great way to make that personal connection through the web.

Choosing The Type Of Video You Want To Create

Hopefully, you can now see that video sales letters are a fantastic option for most online businesses.

Now, let’s figure out which type of video you should create and/or whether or not you’ll be able to do it yourself.

You can get as complicated with this as you want to. If you’re just starting out, you want to make this as simple as you can.

I recommend you create a PowerPoint video featuring your top benefits.  Make the PowerPoint slides as you normally would. Give yourself between 1 minute and 4 minutes or so worth of content, if you’re also using a full text sales letter.

Mediamodifier / Pixabay

Save the slides as a video and add a voiceover narration. You can do all of this within PowerPoint (or one of the free alternatives, whatever it is you’re using).

That’s just about as easy as it gets. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve ever done this before or not; it’s quite simple to figure out.

Remember— focus on drawing people in with your video. Emphasize the benefits. Talk to them as  you would one of your friends.

Another option is to use your webcam or phone to film a simple talking head video. Speak directly to your audience.

You’ll probably want to talk up your product earlier than you would with a text option. People are busy and generally prefer videos that get to the point quickly.

Not to say that there are not plenty of marketers who use longer sales videos. Some even take the controls away from the user so they can’t speed up, rewind, or any of that. This can be annoying, but it’s hard to deny that it does work for certain kinds of marketers running certain types of campaigns.

A Sample Video Script

There’s no one-size-fits-all “script” for a video sales letter. It depends entirely on your audience, what you’re selling, and things like that.

However, I know how hard it can be to get started on something when you’re not entirely sure about it. So, here’s a sample script you might use as a starting point for creating your own VSL (video sales letter).

Introduction: Start by speaking/showing a “headline” that’s going to draw people in. Introduce yourself.

Problem: Introduce the problem your target audience has. Those who are watching the video should feel that they are, very specifically, the target audience. Like you’re speaking directly to them.

Story: Share a short bit of your story and how you understand what they’re going through. Detail a bit of the hero’s journey and hint at the solution.

Benefits: In addition to having spelled out the main benefit you’re addressing via the headline and introduction, list some bullet point benefits you’ll cover within the product.

Product: Introduce the product as the solution they’ve been looking for.

Offer: Introduce the offer—make it one they can’t refuse.

How To Create Great Affiliate Reviews

How to Create a Great Product Review

Many affiliates have problems when it comes to creating product reviews. The problem is that their reviews either don’t contain the all information a prospective buyer wants to know, or is just a hype-fest telling you you must buy the product.

Neither one will work if you want to earn commissions on your reviews.

Creating a great product review really isn’t that difficult at all.

review image

PatternPictures / Pixabay

One of the first things you should do is break down all of the features and benefits of the product. This is for your own benefit. List everything that comes to mind. Go through your product, top to bottom, and write everything down.

Then, do some further brainstorming. You should know this product inside and out.

Now, take some time to get to know what people liked and didn’t like about similar products on the market. Look at what they’re talking about on social media and on relevant forums, when it comes to topics related to your product.

If the product has been reviewed by others before, such as on Amazon or other sales sites, take a look at those reviews. What do people like and dislike? How have they presented their reviews? How have people responded to those reviews?

ecommerce image

StockSnap / Pixabay

Take notes on everything you find. If you know everything there is to know about your product and everything there is to know about the people in your market, then you can very easily write a fantastic review.

Now, come up with a great headline for your review. You are a copywriter, or you know how to write copy, so the same principles apply for how you would write a headline for a product review.

Think about something eye-catching. Feature the main benefit within your headline. You only have a few seconds to capture people’s attention – make sure you do that right in the headline.

Then, you need to have a way to keep people reading. Start your introduction off by stirring up emotions and talking about the problems they have. Launch into a story that relates to the problems they have and how you have gone through a sort of heroes journey and have found the solution.

Since this is a product review, you want to talk the product fairly early on. Talk about its good parts and its bad parts. Talk about how it relates to the problem at hand.

You may want to use bullet points to list its features and benefits. Talk about what you like and don’t like about it. Talk about what others like and don’t like about it. Talk about who it’s best for. Also, share where people can find the best possible deal on the product.

Make sure you’re personable, real, and honest with your audience. They want to know what you really think. They want to know everything – the good, the bad, and the ugly. Of course, you believe in the product so your product review will likely be positive overall. There’s no problem with that. As long as you know that the product is good for your audience, then they will see that through your writing.

Again, you can place this product review on its own on the blog, within an article, or wherever you want to put it. Or, you can make it part of your sales copy somehow.

Your product review may feature comparisons to other products or it might stand alone. It might feature comparison tables that break down the features and benefits, or it might be more simplistic than that. The bottom line is that you should make your product review your own. Think about how you can use this as part of your copywriting, article marketing, affiliate marketing, or niche products sales.

ReaxionLab / Pixabay

Start Writing Product Reviews

Whether you’re new or experienced, get started writing product reviews. You’ll probably see that your conversions are higher than you’ve experienced with other types of articles or even with typical sales copy.

Write new product reviews over time. The more product reviews you have out there, and the more buy buttons you have out there, the more sales you are likely to make.

Hopefully, you’ll find that writing product reviews is surprisingly fun rather than just a chore. And I certainly hope you find it profitable. The fact that writing a simple product review can lead to a fantastic income is even more of an enticement.

Get More Conversions With VSLs

Boosting Conversions With Video Sales Letters

Most of the time, you really have to shake things up to make more sales in online marketing. You don’t want to always do the same thing everyone else is doing. Video Sales Letters or VSLs as they are called in the business, are an exception to this rule.

Having a video on your sales page has been proven to improve conversions by a whopping 60+ percent. Using a video on your sales page is just that important.

video image
Pexels / Pixabay

That can be scary, to be sure. We all get into a pattern we’re used to and familiar with. Stepping outside of that can seem nothing short of horrifying. It’s much more comfortable to just keep doing the same old, same old.

There’s one way you can spruce up your sales letters without stepping too far outside of your comfort zone, however. Hopefully this won’t seem too scary at all. I’ve personally had good results from this method, and it’s something I might do even more of in the future.

This ‘out of the box’ way to spruce up your sales letters is to create video sales letters.

Not sure you can create video? You can. Not sure a video sales letter will convert? It absolutely can.

Think about the way video is used on the web in today’s society. Video is often passed around and shared on social media. It’s more easily digestible. Even if someone doesn’t think they have time to read what amounts to being a wall of text, they have the time to watch a video that’s just a few minutes long.

Let’s go back to the part about video being so much easier to digest. Even those who really enjoy reading might skip reading through your sales letter. That’s a problem.

You spend a lot of time trying your best to write words that will captivate people. Even if you write a really great, captivating sales letter, you might lose out on some who would be interested in what you’re selling, simply because they don’t want to read through the sales letter.

video image 2
geralt / Pixabay

Having a video sales letter can save sales for you. A great, high converting video sales letter can help you earn more money. What’s more, it can sometimes be easier and even quicker to create than a long form, text sales letter. That might be exactly what you need.

I know what you might be thinking—there certainly are some people who have no desire to watch a video. They’d much rather scan text than spend time watching a video, however short.

It is definitely important to make sure a video sales letter is something your audience will support. There’s no sense in going this route if you know for an absolute fact that no one else is using video in your market and/or others have tried to use video in the past and it hasn’t worked out. That’s something that’s really important to know.

StockSnap / Pixabay

However, it could be worth testing with your audience in particular.  They might really respond to a video sales letter in a way that surprises you.

One of the smartest things you can do in my opinion is make use of the best of both worlds. Why not have a typical, written sales letter as well as a video sales letter? Those who want to read can read and those who want to watch can watch. Often, if someone is really interested, they’ll end up doing both.

Some people will find themselves captivated in a way they didn’t think they could be with a video sales letter. Some will be “caught” by the video sales letter when they would have just clicked away otherwise. That’s what you’re going for.

There are certain tools that will allow you to create a quiz to entice people to sign up for your list. This is somewhat of a pattern interrupt, so it can be a great thing to test. People like to answer questions and see if they’re correct, so you can deliver their results via email.

Play around with different ideas like this and see what will work for you.

You Need A Great Squeeze Page…

Remember that you really have to entice people to sign up for your list. That means you need a great squeeze page and opt-in form text. You have a great lead magnet, so now you really have to “sell” it so people will sign up. Creating Effective Lead Magnets For Email Marketing

Understanding How To Use Lead Magnets Effectively

Email marketing is perhaps the most important topic there is when it comes to running a profitable digital business. It doesn’t matter which niche of business you’re in or what your specific goals are for business, you need to have a great and responsive email list.

Of course, it’s tough to get people onto that list in the first place. When you first started email marketing, maybe you were really excited about the idea. You probably used what I like to refer to as the Field Of Dreams Optin Strategy, “if  I put up a squeeze page, people will sign up for my list…” right?

email image
talhakhalil007 / Pixabay

Well, you probably quickly figured out that’s not how it works. People won’t sign up for your list just because you want them to. They won’t sign up for your list just because they see your opt-in form or squeeze page. They aren’t going to sign up for your list even if they love you and what you have to say.

Pretty depressing, isn’t it? You know you have good stuff and make great products and recommendations. So, why won’t people join your list?

You have to think about it from other people’s perspective. Put yourself in their shoes. Do you like getting a ton of marketing emails every day? Of course you don’t. You really only want to hear from those who interest you.

So, What Exactly Is A Lead Magnet?

lead magnet image
mohamed_hassan / Pixabay

Email marketers have burned you in the past. That’s made you even more hesitant to just hand your email address out. You have to really want something to sign up to an email list.

That, right there, is the key. You have to really want something or you won’t sign up. There has to be some sort of incentive there. The same is true for the people you want to sign up for your list.

Give them an incentive and they’ll sign up. It has to be something so enticing and exciting that they would otherwise pay for it.

It has to be… magnetic.

That’s a lead magnet. If you want to get more people to join your email list, it’s important to come up with a great lead magnet that people will be excited to sign up for.

They’ll see your lead magnet on your squeeze page or your opt-in form and they’ll get so excited that they happily and quickly hand over their email address. That’s what you’re going for.

So now it’s time to figure out what your lead magnet should be and get it ready.

A Lead Magnet Should Be Simple

One of the things your lead magnet should be is simple and effective. Don’t over complicate things. There should be nothing confusing at all about your lead magnet or the text that’s designed to get people to sign up for your lead magnet.

It should be easy to understand the value. It should be easy to sign up.

Make sure your squeeze page and/or opt-in form are uncluttered and uncomplicated. Simplify… and entice.

mohamed_hassan / Pixabay

A Lead Magnet Should Be Very Specific

Make sure your lead magnet is really specific. Consider offering one solution to one problem people in the niche have. You don’t want a lead magnet that’s general or tries to cover too much.

Really spell out exactly what people can expect to receive. You wouldn’t say something like, “sign up to learn more about Internet marketing.”

That’s not specific at all! People are going to click away. It’s not at all magnetic.

“3 little-known ways to get 3 offline clients by the end of the day…guaranteed” is a lot more specific and enticing. This is perfect for an IM crowd that’s interested in starting a business as an offline marketing consultant.

Now get started on your lead magnet.

How To Tell A Great Story

How to Turn a Great Story Into Sales

One of the very best ways to boost sales and conversions is to tell a great story in your copy. Don’t get trapped into thinking you can’t possibly tell a great story. You absolutely can tell a great story if you just follow the tips in this post. You can do this – you can tell a great story.

storytelling drawing
Clker-Free-Vector-Images / Pixabay

The first thing you should do is understand what your reader is going through. What are their biggest struggles, what are their biggest goals, and what’s at the top of their minds all the time?

This means you should study your market. You should’ve done that already anyway as part of writing your sales copy. But, it’s also very important when you’re trying to weave a great story.

Something to really zero in on that a lot of people have trouble with, are the emotions people are feeling. Think about their emotions as they relate to the topic you’re focusing on. What are you trying to sell? Which emotions are connected to using your product?

Think hard about where people will be emotionally before buying your product. Then, think about where people will be emotionally after they buy your product.

Zero in on what your product will accomplish for those who purchase. Then, use the emotional hot buttons you identify throughout your sales copy, and especially in the story you weave.

Now that we have the proper frame of mind, it’s time to start working on the actual story.

When you write sales copy, you want to focus on being nothing but honest and truthful. You’re not just trying to create a story out of thin air only to sell something. You should be either telling your own story, or the story of someone else.

People simply love what is referred to as the hero’s journey. People enjoy hearing that someone else has struggled and experienced many of  same issues they have. Even more, they like hearing that people were able to overcome those obstacles to achieve their goals.

Be The Hero…

mohamed_hassan / Pixabay

You are going to be that hero for them. You’re going to tell your story and how your product enabled you to overcome your obstacle.

Start with the pain you felt when you encountered your roadblock. Really focus on the emotions and the struggles you went through. Then, talk about the chain of events that eventually led to discovering the solution. Then, hint at, or fully disclose, the solution you’ve found.

When you tell the story, make it interesting. Weave that tale. Remember how you would’ve told that story when you were six years old. Think about the excitement and ups and downs.

If you don’t have your own story, then you can talk in more hypothetical terms. Talk about the typical journey someone goes through when they have the problem your product solves.

Or, use someone else’s story. You either need to have permission for this or approach it from a journalistic slant.

Remember that it is important to be truthful. You don’t want to make anything up or appear to be anything you’re not. You don’t have to have gone through the same thing the people reading your sales copy have gone through, although it really does help.

Practice Writing Your Story

Practice, practice, practice.

Practice writing your story and seeing how effective it is. Your story really does not have to be that long when it comes to sales copy. It could be a few paragraphs or longer than that, if it serves the purpose of the copy.

Your story will typically be closer to the start of the sales letter, after you have captured their attention. In the beginning, it’s all about them, but then you can guide them through your story as a way of connecting with them and showing them that you understand exactly what they’re going through.

There is no one correct way to do this. Focus on what will work best for your sales copy and what is most likely to convert for you. Over time, you’ll get a feel for what works and what doesn’t work. You can also test different ways of presenting the story throughout the sales copy, as you strive to achieve the best conversion.

sales image
nosheep / Pixabay

The Story Leads to Sales…

For all the reasons we’ve already talked about, weaving a story in throughout your sales copy can really help boost your sales. It can help people feel connected with you, which will help for this sale and for building your relationship with that buyer in the long term.

Don’t be fearful of writing a story in your sales copy. We talked about the fact that it doesn’t have to be long it doesn’t have to be difficult. But, it does have to show the ups and downs on the journey along the way. Make people feel that you understand them.

I can say from personal experience that writing a story for your sales copy can even be a lot of fun. The more you tell stories in your marketing, the more fun, and the more profitable, it is likely to be.

Which Is Best For Affiliates, Instant or Long Term Payments? – Part 2

The Benefit of a Long Term Payment As An Affiliate

Before we go further, we should really define what “long term” really is. Sometimes a merchant will pay you at the end of the refund period which can be as short as 30-60 days depending on the affiliate network.

Sometimes the merchant will wait until the end of the month after the refund period expires. That can mean 30 or more days of extra waiting.

ecommerce-3530785_640

If you trust the product creator (and hopefully you’re only promoting product creators you can really trust) then there’s no problem waiting for a long term payment.

In fact, there are benefits, in some cases. many instant payment platforms will only pay you for the specific product you’re promoting and maybe the upsell, and nothing more. That can be okay…

But other payment platforms, like JVZoo (which I use for almost all of my products), or Warrior+ allow the product creator to pay you for EVERY product a customer that you refer buys. So, you might promote one product as an affiliate. You don’t get paid instantly, and you’re okay with that. But then some of your customers go on to buy more and more and more. Your long term payment is looking even better.

And, since most my products come with a 60 day refund policy, I pay as soon as the refund period has expired. That’s the earliest JVZoo will allow you to process delayed affiliate commissions anyway.

The Drawback of a Long Term Payment

The drawback of a long term payment is obvious—you don’t get paid instantly.

But in most cases, isn’t that okay? As long as the product you’re promoting is worth it and you trust the product creator, it’s often to your benefit.

mohamed_hassan / Pixabay

The Most Important Part of Choosing What To Promote Is…

Hopefully, you can see that whether you’re getting paid instantly or long term usually isn’t the most important factor for what you promote.

Sure, promote something that pays you instantly if you need the cash and you find a great product. But, otherwise, don’t be turned off by a longer term payment.

The most important part of choosing what to promote is how the product will benefit your buyer. You should always put your buyer first.

Unfortunately, too few product creators pay attention to that. They promote, promote, promote based on what they think will benefit them the most.

The trick is on them, of course. If you pay attention to what will best benefit your buyer, you’ll be much more richly rewarded. You’ll earn good commissions but you’ll also earn the trust of your buyer.

Find and promote great products you know your audience can really benefit from, that’s the bottom line.

mohamed_hassan / Pixabay

Try a Mixture

It also doesn’t have to be one or the other when it comes to instant pay promotions or long term pay promotions. You can promote a mixture of both. In fact, that will probably happen naturally if you focus on promoting what’s best for your audience at the time.

Promote some instant payment products, especially when you might not be as familiar with the seller. That way, you know you’ll be paid fairly.

Promote some long term payment products, especially when you know that your buyers will be cookied and you’ll be paid on everything they go on to buy, such as the things you promote for me as an affiliate through JVZoo.

Long Term or Instant? The Choice is Yours

Ultimately, you have to do what’s going to be best for your business. Promote wisely to your audience and you’ll end up with a great overall income.

Evaluate each affiliate promotion on a case by case basis. It’s a great time to be an affiliate in online business. There truly are a lot of different options out there and it’s easy to choose the one that will work for you.

As long as you’re always putting your audience first, the terms of payment don’t matter quite as much.

Which Is Best For Affiliates, Instant or Long Term Payments? – Part 1

Instant VS Long Term Payments For Affiliates

There are so many different things you can promote as an affiliate. It’s exciting and freeing, really.

mohamed_hassan / Pixabay

You’re always looking for ways to maximize your earnings. You want to make sure you’re promoting high quality products that your customers will really love. But, beyond that, you want to earn as much as you can, with as little effort as you can.

One of the questions you have to ask yourself is whether you prefer to have an instant payment as an affiliate or if you are okay with promotions that don’t pay you instantly.

There are pluses and drawbacks to either method.affiliate marketing image

In this post we will cover instant payments. Part two will pick up with long term recurring payments.

You might be thinking that the obvious best option is to have an instant payment. We all want things instantly. The sooner the better, right?

Maybe…

The Benefit of Being Paid Instantly

You do a promotion because you want to earn for it. Should you really have to wait for that payment? You’ve heard horror stories of it taking weeks or months or longer to be paid for an affiliate promotion. Sometimes, it’s the fault of the product creator or person paying you.

When you’re paid instantly, that problem melts away. The money goes directly into your PayPal account (or wherever it’s going). You get instant satisfaction and instant access to your cash. You don’t have to wait. Awesome!

Also, you might notice that merchants paying instantly (via JV Zoo or Warrior Plus, for example), will often pay you 100% commissions… that really sounds enticing, right? It is, and then again it isn’t always, as we’ll discuss in just a moment.

The Drawback of Being Paid Instantly

Not so fast—this isn’t always a perfect scenario. For one thing, many great products aren’t available for instant payment at all. That can be really frustrating. And you wouldn’t want to bypass a product that will be a great fit for your buyers just because you wouldn’t be paid instantly on it—that’s not smart business.

e-commerce-3219138_640You also have to factor in that you have to consider refunds. Some people will likely refund the product you’re promoting, no matter how great it is. That’s okay and it’s to be expected. But, getting paid instantly can lead to you counting your chickens before they’re hatched.

You have to refund people who ask for it, depending on the guidelines of the seller. In some cases, the seller or payment processor initiates the refund, taking the money straight back out of your account. This is a huge problem if you’ve already transferred or spent the money. Just because the money is in your account doesn’t mean you can necessarily rest easily with it.

The other drawback, to follow up on the 100% commission possibility, is that the merchant is only paying you a commission for the sale of the one product. They’re getting the email address of a buyer added to their email list. When they promote their other products to that buyer, or when they promote as an affiliate themselves, you get nothing.

Tomorrow we will continue with part two.
